The Lesson in a Parking Lot
Sometimes the simplest moments quietly teach us the biggest truths about life.
I was sitting in a parking lot the other day, listening to the end of a song …. checking messages on my iPhone, and watching the world go by.
In the parking lot, there was a huge black bird pecking at some trash on the ground, minding its own business, eating whatever it had managed to find.
Then another bird flew down.
But this second bird didn’t rush in.
It didn’t attack.
It didn’t flap its wings and make a scene.
Instead, it strutted around like it owned the place. Almost like an old man walking with his hands behind his back. He cocked his head to one side, looked around, paced slowly in a circle, and casually made his way toward the first bird who was already eating.
And I sat there thinking…
What’s going to happen now?
You almost expect conflict.
You expect the first bird to chase the second one away.
Or maybe the new bird would shove his way in.
Maybe a fight.
Maybe squawking and wings flapping and feathers flying.
That’s what we expect, right?
Because that’s often how people behave.
But that’s not what happened.
The first bird simply moved over.
No fuss.
No argument.
No pecking.
Not even a sound.
Just a quiet shift to the side.
And the two of them stood there together… eating side by side.
No drama.
No territory battle.
No ego.
Just two birds sharing what was there.
And as simple as it was, it struck me.
That’s the way life should be.
There is enough room for more than one person.
There is enough opportunity for more than one person.
There is enough food, enough ideas, enough space in this world that we don’t always have to push someone else out just to exist ourselves.
Yet people often live as if everything is a competition.
We guard our space.
We defend our ground.
We worry someone might take something from us.
But those birds didn’t see it that way.
One simply made room.
And the other simply joined.
No pride lost.
No power struggle.
Just quiet acceptance that both of them belonged there.
Sometimes the most unexpected wisdom comes from the smallest moments… even in a random parking lot.
Two birds, standing in trash, reminded me of something people often forget:
Life doesn’t always have to be a fight.
Sometimes all it takes is a small step to the side.
And suddenly, there is room for everyone.
Wishing you Peace …..
